Hey y’all! My name is Joy…

Often known by my friends as, “The Mississippi Coffee Lady.”

I love all things coffee. I love that it’s a science. I also love that it’s an art. I love that it’s a language that draws different people groups of any age, race, and creed together and creates community. Coffee is a bond that brings people together as hearts are shared and memories are made, as every sip enjoyed takes you back home to the people you love. I started my business when I found myself the oldest child in my widowed mother’s house after cancer took my father.

Looking for a source of income that wouldn’t take me away from helping her raise my younger brothers and sisters in a typical 9 to 5 job, I embarked on a new journey. I began as a distributer for another coffee brand, which led me to coin my Mississippi Coffee Lady name, but after doing all that work and them making all the money, my older brothers told me, “Why don’t you roast your own?” I think my exact words were, “I don’t know how the heck to roast coffee!”

But would you believe it, three months later I was in business. I ordered my first batch of beans off Amazon to practice roasting as I immersed myself in study of becoming the best roaster I could possibly be. I learned to determine roast profiles by sight, sound, and smell as I roasted in my mother’s kitchen oven. But, after a few of months of tedious effort and filling mom’s house with smoke I realized I had what it took to become a real roaster and was ready to start roasting on my own.

Money still being tight, I couldn’t afford a legitimate roaster so I found a chicken rotisserie oven and had it converted into a roaster with an added heating element to increase temperatures to a necessary heat. My beginnings are humble and those limited resources were comical, but I’m proud of my story and how far I’ve come! I’m passionate about bringing you quality, single origin roasts that you’ll be proud to serve to your guests and satisfy the thirsty connoisseur within.

I’ve shipped my coffee all over the United States and it has been enjoyed by deployed service members all over the world. Every time I roast, I carefully fill a hand stamped bag with coffee roasted to perfection and package it with a hand-written note. No matter if I’m shipping it to a veteran away from home, small town coffee enthusiast, or big time coffee connoisseur that sips nothing less than the best high end roasts, I’m grateful to fill their cup and touch their hearts with good ole southern hospitality and a taste of home. That’s the “Mississippi Coffee Lady” way.
